Preparations for Chhath Puja have intensified in Lucknow. Cleaning work has been going on at Lakshman Mela Ghat in the city for the last three days. At the same time, there is excitement in the markets too. People are purchasing fruits, worship materials and clothes for the puja.

5 lakh people perform puja, 15 lakh people join
Prabhunath Rai, who started Chhath Puja at Gomti Ghat in Lucknow, says that at present around 5 lakh people perform Chhath Puja in Lucknow. In this, more than 15 lakh population is directly connected to it. On an average, a family spends just over Rs 10,000. When the financial condition is good, this expenditure reaches lakhs of rupees.
Business worth more than Rs 500 crore
Amarnath Mishra, President of Lucknow Trade Board, says that business is gaining momentum due to Chhath Puja. Textile and fruit business is most prominent in this. It is estimated that due to Chhath Puja, business worth Rs 500 to 600 crore has started.
At present the Chhath business in Lucknow has crossed Rs 500 crore.
Used to order goods from Deoria and Gorakhpur
At one time, even Chhath Puja items were not available in Lucknow. Organizers say that all the goods had to be procured in bulk from Gorakhpur and Deoria. But now it is traded heavily in various corners of the city including Sitapur Road. Even the smallest shopkeeper earns thousands of rupees in just one week’s market.
Sometimes in Lucknow one had to order goods from Gorakhpur and Deoria.
Sugarcane coming from Western Uttar Pradesh and Terai
Sugarcane business is very high during six pujas. A devotee keeps five sugarcanes near the altar of worship. In such a situation, there is a minimum consumption of 25 lakh sugarcane in the city. Vikas Baliyan, a farmer of Western Uttar Pradesh and knowledgeable about sugarcane issues, says that many districts including Pilibhit, Lakhimpur, Murabad, Bareilly, Bulandshahr produce sugarcane. Through this, a business of three to five crore rupees is done.
