Srinagar Garhwal. In the hilly areas of Uttarakhand, sowing of wheat is considered suitable from 15th November to the first week of December. In such a situation, if the farmers of hilly areas sow wheat on time, they can get good yield. By sowing wheat at the right time, farmers can get good profits in a short time. Farmers of hilly areas have to keep some important things in mind while preparing the fields for sowing wheat. In this regard, Local 18 spoke to an agricultural expert from the Seed Science Department of Garhwal University.
Agriculture expert Meenakshi Joshi of the Seed Science Department told Local 18 that the suitable time for wheat cultivation is from November 15 to the first week of December. During this time, some special things have to be kept in mind while preparing the field. If farmers have planted any other crop before plowing the field, they will have to harvest it 10 to 15 days earlier. After this, the field has to be irrigated well so that plowing becomes easier, because most of the farmers here plow the fields with oxen. If irrigation is done properly, plowing becomes easier. The first plowing has to be done 10 days after irrigation. After ploughing, the field has to be leveled, and then second plowing has to be done after two to three days.
Do this work before sowing
Meenakshi Joshi told that after ploughing, cow dung compost has to be applied in the field, after which after 10 days the old crop residues have to be removed from the field and sowing is done. In the mountains, farmers sow wheat by hand. The most important thing to be kept in mind at this time is that while sowing the seeds, it is important to take care that the seeds do not fall in excess anywhere, because this leads to excessive wastage of seeds. The quantity of 80 to 100 kg wheat seeds is suitable in one hectare.
Cultivate wheat with these varieties
Meenakshi Joshi said that most of the farmers in the hilly areas do not know which wheat variety will give good yield. Therefore, in hilly areas, farmers should mainly sow VL-18 and VL Wheat-967 varieties of wheat, because their yield is good in hilly areas.
