Dehradun: As soon as the winter season knocks in the mountains, people start hiding in their homes, but the thieves of Pachhwadun are taking advantage of this cold to carry out their activities. With the onset of winter in Pachhwadun area, a surge in incidents of theft is being seen. More than half a dozen incidents of theft have been registered in Vikasnagar Kotwali, Sahaspur and Selaqui police station areas in the beginning of the season. These incidents are raising question marks on police patrolling and security.
Recently, SSP Ajay Singh had instructed the policemen to increase foot patrolling in the area, but despite this, policemen are not visible at many major intersections. When Local 18 talked to CO Vikasnagar Bhaskar Lal Sah about this matter, he said that the police is doing regular patrolling in the area and vehicles are also being checked at the check post. He said that some thefts have also been exposed.
Police appeal to people
Bhaskar Lal Sah further said that in view of the winter season, instructions have been given to increase patrolling. Recently, the accused were arrested after a theft incident in a temple in Herbertpur. Besides, people are also being made aware that whenever they go out of the house for a long time, they should inform the police station.
Major incidents of theft in the last week
6 November: Cash and jewelery stolen from two houses in Chiranjipur and Martindale.
7 November: Theft from a copper snake and donation box from a temple in Sahaspur.
9 November: On November 9, in Selaqui police station area, thieves made away with jewelery, laptop and other items worth lakhs of rupees from the house of a branch manager of a company.
10 November: Theft of Rs 1.60 lakh from a house in Jamnipur.
10 November: Theft of cash and jewelery in Dinkar Vihar.

Questions raised on police accountability
When correspondent Adarsh Sharma questioned the absence of policemen at the intersections, CO Bhaskar Lal Sah said that many policemen were on duty in other programs. Due to which there was shortage of police force for a few days. However, now special attention is being given to this and police stations have been instructed to increase patrolling in their respective areas. It is noteworthy that the police administration is continuously giving instructions to increase patrolling and additional efforts are being made to control the incidents of theft.
