New Delhi. The troubles of American streaming company Netflix are going to increase. In fact, Reuters, citing a government email, has said that the Indian government is investigating allegations of visa violation, tax evasion and racial discrimination against OTT platform Netflix India. This email was sent to former Netflix executive Nandini Mehta.
According to Reuters report, this email was written on July 20 by Deepak Yadav, an official of the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) of the Home Ministry. The email reads, “This is regarding visa and tax violation concerns regarding Netflix’s business practices in India. “We have received some details in this regard regarding the company’s conduct, visa violations, illegal structure, tax evasion and other irregularities, including incidents of racial discrimination.”

A Netflix spokesperson told Reuters that the company was not aware of the investigation being conducted by the Indian government. Deepak Yadav refused to comment. The Foreigners Regional Registration Office and India’s Home Ministry did not respond to Reuters questions.
Mehta’s case
Mehta left the company in 2020. In 2021, Mehta filed a lawsuit against the company in Los Angeles County Superior Court alleging wrongful termination and racial and gender discrimination. The company has denied the allegations in court.
