NEW DELHI: Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge on Tuesday took a potshot at Prime Minister Narendra Modi “for viewing, applauding, reviewing and publicising films like Kashmir Files and Sabarmati Report.”
Kharge’s strong remarks came after PM Modi and several cabinet members watched the movie ‘The Sabarmati Report‘ on Monday at the Balyogi Auditorium in the Parliament library building.
Taking to X, Kharge further said that PM Modi has “no time to run the Parliament, explain the state of the economy, address unemployment issues or visit Manipur.”
“When will PM read the real “Manipur Files” and tell the actual “Manipur Story” to the people of India? Modi is undoubtedly the best event manager and master of ceremonies of “self” the country has ever had.” Kharge’s post added.
Before its launch, the movie ‘The Sabarmati Report’ which claims to reveal the truth behind the Godhra train burning incidentreceived a lot of criticism from the opposition. However, the BJP government has endorsed the film, with several states declaring it tax-free.
PM Modi attended the screening alongside Union ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari and BJP ally Jitan Ram Manjhi, amongst others. The film portrays the events surrounding the Sabarmati Express fire at Godhra on February 27, 2002, which resulted in the death of 59 devotees returning from a religious ceremony in Ayodhya.
Following the screening, Modi shared his appreciation for the filmmakers’ efforts on the social media platform X. “Joined fellow NDA MPs at a screening of ‘The Sabarmati Report.’ I commend the makers of the film for their effort,” PM Modi wrote in a post.
