The district administration has taken strict steps regarding tobacco prohibition in Rae Bareli. Under the direction of DM Harshita Mathur, a special campaign for tobacco control was conducted in all 6 tehsils and blocks of the district. This includes health department, education department, food supply and police departments.

Raid under COTPA Act-2003
The enforcement team under the leadership of DM conducted raids in the district to ensure compliance with COTPA Act-2003. Action was taken against sale and promotion of tobacco products near the District Hospital, Vikas Bhawan and other public places.
Rs 3200 fine on 17 shopkeepers
Additional Chief Medical Officer Dr. Arvind Kumar and the police team together imposed a fine of Rs 3200 on 17 shopkeepers selling tobacco products.
126 people fined Rs 10730 in blocks
A total fine of Rs 10,730 was imposed on 126 people during raids in blocks and tehsils.
The campaign will continue further
The administration has warned that selling tobacco products without pictorial warnings, selling or encouraging children under 18 years of age to use tobacco will be considered a serious crime. Strict action will be taken in such cases in future too.
The aim of the district administration is to make Rae Bareli tobacco free and to protect the citizens from the health harm caused by tobacco. This campaign will be repeated from time to time.
