Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact and also address young innovators through video conference at the grand finale of the seventh ‘Smart India Hackathon 2024’ on Wednesday. Teams of more than 1300 students will participate in it. This is the biggest edition so far with a 150% increase in internal hackathons at the institution level.
The grand finale of the 7th Hackathon will run simultaneously at 51 nodal centers across the country. The software edition will run nonstop for 36 hours while the hardware edition will continue from 11 to 15 December 2024.
Team will give ideas on more than 250 problems
This year, 54 ministries, departments, state governments and Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) have sent more than 250 problems. More than 86 thousand teams participated in the hackathon at the institution level and around 49 thousand student teams (each consisting of 6 students and 2 mentors) have been selected for the national level round.
What is Smart India Hackathon?
In the Smart India Hackathon, student teams work on problems given by ministries, departments or industries or pitch their ideas in the Student Innovation category on any of the 17 topics related to areas of national importance. These sectors are healthcare, supply chain and logistics, smart technology, heritage and culture, sustainability, education and skill development, water, agriculture and food, emerging technology and disaster management.
Some of the interesting problems in this year’s edition include ‘Enhancing images of deep regions on the Moon’ presented by ISRO, ‘Ganga in real time using AI, satellite data, Internet of Things (IoT) and dynamic models’ presented by Jal Shakti Ministry. ‘Developing a Water Quality Monitoring System’ and ‘Creating a Smart Yoga Mat with the Help of AI’ presented by the Ministry of AYUSH.
