Nainital: Till date you must have seen sweaters being made from woolen threads, but for the first time in Ramnagar of Nainital district of Uttarakhand, women are self-employed by making not sweaters from wool but many types of toys. The toys made by self-employed women groups under the Lakhpati Didi scheme run by the Uttarakhand government are being liked a lot by the tourists visiting Jim Corbett National Park in Ramnagar as well as the local people. Women are making Pikachu, Mario, Puzzle, Joker, Mr. Bean from wool with the help of crochet, machine and hands from woolen threads. Besides, she is also preparing woolen toys of Lord Ganesha, Ram and Shri Krishna etc.

Bhavna Mehra, who runs a souvenir shop in Ramnagar under the Rural Planning Mission, said that 8 to 9 women associated with her souvenir shop are making many attractive toys with crochet, knitting machines and hands. He told that about 10 grams to 100 grams of wool is used in making a toy.
Wool is used according to the size of the toy. It takes about 15 minutes to half an hour to prepare a toy and the price of these toys ranges from Rs 150 to Rs 1500. He told that toys made of wool are very soft and can also be washed.
Help is being given by the government
Saraswati Joshi, Managing Officer of Ramnagar Block Mission, says that National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) is a mission of the Government of India, in which we organize women in self-help groups. These women are being helped by the government to get employment by running such schemes. Besides, women are also given training for the work they want to do.
Saraswati Joshi said that the aim of the Lakhpati Didi scheme brought by Prime Minister Modi is to make every woman a millionaire. Under this, women are being trained and linked to employment. In Ramnagar too, women are being given training in making toys from wool and souvenirs have also been given to the women by the block. From where she is selling the products made by her. Due to this, the economy of women is also improving.
