The first convocation of BHU was held in 1919.
The grand chapter of the convocation ceremony is also associated with the glorious past of BHU. This university, which has traveled a journey of more than a hundred years, witnessed many major changes from its first convocation to its 104th convocation. Three years after the establishment of BHU in 1916, the first convocation ceremony was held on 17 January 1919 at the Central Hindu College, Kamchha. In the presence of Mahamana, the Raja of Mysuru, who was the Chancellor of the University, distributed degrees to the graduates. At that time, students used to take their degrees in purple gowns, gold-lined hoods and cream-coloured turbans. The prayer hall and stepped platform of the college campus was covered with tents and became the venue of the convocation ceremony.
