About 45 crore people from across the country are expected to attend Mahakumbh in 2025 in 45 days.
The Central Government is considering a new option for the convenience of railway passengers attending the Mahakumbh starting from January 13 in Prayagraj.
According to sources, Railways may eliminate the requirement of purchasing tickets for general coach passengers returning from Mahakumbh. Necessary formalities for this are being finalized.
In fact, about 45 crore people from across the country are expected to arrive in the 45 days of Mahakumbh. Railways estimates that taking the average of Kumbh days, more than 5 lakh passengers will travel in general class coaches every day.
It will be a big challenge to gather the necessary resources to provide tickets to so many passengers in a day. Therefore the requirement of purchasing general tickets is being canceled for Kumbh.
Railways will run 3 thousand special trains for Kumbh, which will make more than 13 thousand trips. Mahakumbh will be organized between 13 January to 26 February 2025.
Facility information
- Will all passengers get this facility? No. The facility will be available only to passengers returning from Kumbh Mela in general class. Passengers of other categories will be able to travel only by taking reserved tickets.
- Will travelers be able to go anywhere in the country from Kumbh? No. It is being considered to provide this facility for passengers up to 200 to 250 km from Prayagraj.
- What if someone has to go beyond 250 km? If long distance passengers are unable to buy tickets in the crowd, they will be able to buy tickets from TTE in the train. If returning from Kumbh, there will be no fine. A final decision on this proposal is yet to be taken.
Trial of taking ticket from scanner was not successful, network jammed Railways conducted a trial of purchasing scanner tickets at the station as an alternative. But, booking a large number of tickets simultaneously led to a network jam-like situation.
A railway official said – Due to heavy crowd, it is not practical for passengers to stand in queue to get tickets. There is a rule of fine for traveling without ticket, but a large number of staff is required to check it. Therefore, Railways is considering making unreserved category tickets free.
Preparation to make 4 world records in Mahakumbh During the Mahakumbh, a confluence of 4 world records will also be seen in Sangamnagar. In Prayagraj, the target has been set to establish records of the largest synchronized sweeping drive, the largest parade of e-vehicles, making the most handprint paintings in 8 hours and the largest river cleaning campaign.
All these records will be completed keeping in mind the standards and guidelines of Guinness Book of World Records. In such a situation, a specific team will be formed soon to follow the procedures related to these records.
