New Delhi. In today’s digital age, our dependence on credit cards is very high. Even if you do shopping as per your wish with credit card, it can also make you a victim of fraud. Noida Police has arrested 6 scammers who were cheating credit card holders. This gang of scammers was impersonating bankers and cheating people by promising to increase their credit card limit. Scammers very cleverly used to obtain sensitive information of credit card holders and extort lakhs of rupees from them. If you are also a credit card user, then it is important for you to know how fraudsters do all this?
The gang used to pose as bank officials to credit card holders and offer to increase their credit limit. To make their offer appear genuine, they used to collect all the information of the credit card holder in advance and the card holder felt as if the call had actually come from the bank.
Customers are trapped by phishing links
To trap the scammers, they used to send phishing links to the victims which took them to fake websites. This website looked exactly like the bank portal, because it was designed exactly the same way.
This is how they used to cheat
After visiting these fraudulent sites, the card holder is asked to download an app. The app then asks them to enter sensitive information, which includes their credit card numbers, email addresses, PAN and Aadhaar card details, current credit limit, expiry dates and CVV numbers.
Used to buy expensive things online
As soon as the credit card holder entered his complete information in this app, scammers used that information and OTP to make online purchases. In his shopping, he used to buy not small things but expensive things like mobile phones and gold and silver coins from e-commerce sites.
The police had received secret information about this, after which the police caught 6 scammers. However, the mastermind who created the bank’s website and app is currently out of the reach of the police.
