DehradunUniform Civil Code (UCC) may be implemented in the state on 9th November, the foundation day of Uttarakhand state. It is noteworthy that Goa is the only Indian state where Uniform Civil Code is in force. Uniform Civil Code is defined under Article 44 of the Directive Principles of State Policy in the Indian Constitution. Which applies to all citizens of India in relation to marriage, divorce, inheritance, adoption and succession. The process of implementing Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand is now in the final stage. The nine-member panel that prepared the rules and regulations for the UCC said after its last meeting that the process has been completed. It is also believed that the Uttarakhand government can implement it on the occasion of State Foundation Day on 9th November. After the implementation of Uniform Civil Code, there will be equal laws for marriage, divorce and adoption for all. On this, the team of Local 18 talked to the Muslim women of Dehradun and tried to know their opinion.
Razia Baig, senior advocate and social worker of the capital Dehradun, told Local 18 that women should get equal rights but before equal laws, it is necessary to give them equal rights in every field. He has said that Shariat had given women equal rights in the property of their parents 14 hundred years ago. He said that Shariat has been tampered with in the Uniform Civil Code. When there is talk of equal law for all citizens of Uttarakhand, then why are some tribes not included in it, why is only Shariat being tampered with? He said that the state government has claimed that the introduction of this law will open the way for the upliftment of Muslim women in the society by giving them equal rights, if this is the case then the government will open various posts for Muslim women including Parliament and Assembly. Reservation must be given. If you really want to uplift them, then try to connect Muslim women with the mainstream.
Should have taken advice from experts
Razia Baig has said that the people for whom UCC is to be implemented should seek advice from experts and their veterans. But the government did not do this. Mohsina said that the government is talking about registration of living relationship, that is, it will be declared legal officially and in Indian culture, it is considered wrong in every religion.
Equal treatment is necessary along with equal laws.
Sabra says that if everyone lives together in the country and society, we are with everyone. It is good if there are equal laws for everyone, but there should be equality not only in law but also in practice. There should be no discrimination in employment, just as people buy goods on the basis of religion and caste. He said that religion is not considered while voting. Everyone should be treated equally as it used to be before. The earlier environment was not like this.
Law on Living Relationship
Alia says that this new law talks about registration for living relationship and living relationship is not considered right in any religion, not only Muslim. If the government registers living relationships in this way, will people consider it legally correct? In this, children born in living relationship will be considered legitimate. But who will take care of them and who will marry a girl who has been in a live-in relationship before?
Government should include all the people
Advocate Ashima said that what is the need of Uttarakhand government to bring UCC. When the Constitution has given everyone the right to equality from Article 14 to Article 18. If any law has to be brought, it should come from the central government. What does the government want to prove by bringing the law in just one state? Why have all the people of Uttarakhand not been included in this? It is noteworthy that people are seen opposing the UCC bill, but after the implementation of this law, practices like triple talaq, halala and iddat have been completely banned among Muslims. There will be a stop.
