Haridwar: Ganga Ghat is going to be decorated in Haridwar, Uttarakhand. Ganga Utsav 2024 will be organized here on 4th November. Special preparations are being made in this regard. It will be celebrated at Chandi Ghat. NMCG organizes this event every year to commemorate the anniversary of the declaration of River Ganga as ‘National River’. This program is being celebrated for the 8th time. Ganga committees will also celebrate this festival in 139 districts of the Ganga basin states. Many senior ministers including Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will participate in the program.
This year Ganga Utsav is being celebrated with great pomp. Union Jal Shakti Minister Shri C.R. Patil is leading it. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Minister of State for Jal Shakti Raj Bhushan Choudhary, and Secretary of Jal Shakti Ministry Devashree Mukherjee will participate in this program. Apart from this, many other guests from the Central and State Governments will also participate. This event will also be a part of the flag-off ceremony of the upcoming Ganga Mahila Rafting Expedition to be organized in collaboration with BSF. This campaign, which will last for 50 days, will pass through 9 major cities and towns along the banks of river Ganga and will end at Ganga Sagar. This historic campaign will coincide with a number of activities to be organized in several districts across the five states of the Ganga Basin.

This time the program will be presented as a model program in the form of River Utsav. This alliance has been formed by including 145 river cities across the country. The objective of the alliance is to clean the rivers. “Ganga Samvad” will be organized during the festival. In which many celebrities including prominent personalities, religious and spiritual gurus will present their views on various topics. The objective of which is to motivate the youth to connect with river conservation and spread awareness.
There will also be a program named “Ghat Par Haat” in Ganga Mahotsav. Besides, many stalls of local departments will be set up. Through which many aspects of Namami Gange initiative will be shown. Children will be made aware about river conservation. During this period, there will also be quiz, film screening, magic show, puppet show and drawing competition for children. Street plays will also be organized with the aim of increasing awareness about river conservation among the young generation. Apart from this, a special session will focus on the cultural journey of rivers and the stories related to them. The event will also include an exhibition on Namami Gange, showcasing various aspects of the initiative.
‘Ganga Utsav 2024’ will promote people’s connection with the river and advance efforts for the conservation of river Ganga. Along with this, River Ganga has been an important center of Indian civilization, and through this festival an effort will be made to understand its heritage and importance in depth. Another major objective of the festival is to increase public awareness about cleanliness. So that collective efforts can be encouraged which will prove helpful in preventing river pollution and reviving them.
