New Delhi. Although Royal Enfield manufactures middle weight motorcycles in India, but moving forward with the changing times, the company is also preparing bikes that run on clean fuel. Royal Enfield has recently released a teaser which makes it clear that the company is now gearing up to launch an electric motorcycle. The company has recently released the official teaser of its first electric bike, in which information has been given to reserve the date of November 4, 2024. The global debut of this new electric motorcycle will take place at the prestigious EICMA 2024 event in Italy. Along with this, Royal Enfield has also launched a new Instagram account (@royalenfieldev) for electric motorcycles and a special section on its website, from where customers will get information about this new segment.
Royal Enfield’s new electric motorcycle is ready to give a new dimension to urban transportation. This step of the company is a strategic effort towards future electric mobility, which will also retain the company’s historical identity. The teaser indicates that this new electric bike will especially meet the demands of urban transportation. It will include advanced connectivity features, better ergonomics and comfortable riding experience.
Expected launch in 2025
However, the company is in no hurry to launch this bike immediately. The company wants its electric vehicle segment to create the right attraction among enthusiastic riders. The company is taking steps in this direction very thoughtfully. Royal Enfield’s first electric model is expected to be launched in 2025, and just as there are several models to complement the current petrol engine range, a full range of electric bikes will also be introduced in the future.
work on two different platforms
Royal Enfield is working on two different platforms for its electric motorcycles. One of these platforms is being developed within the company itself, while the other platform is being developed in collaboration with European startup company Stark Future. In 2022, Royal Enfield bought 10.35% stake in Stark Future, which was a deal worth €50 million i.e. approximately Rs 439 crore. The objective of this partnership is to cooperate in research and development, technical licensing and production.
Will the bike’s signature ‘thump’ disappear?
It is difficult to imagine Royal Enfield’s petrol bikes without their signature ‘thump’, but the electric bikes will be completely silent. The company has clarified that they will not use speakers for sound effects in electric bikes, as it will look fake. The thump of petrol engine bikes comes from their rhythm, which is not possible to replicate in electric bikes.
Production of petrol bikes will continue
Although Royal Enfield is moving towards electric mobility, the company will not stop the production of petrol engine bikes. As long as regulations permit, the production and popularity of petrol bikes will continue as they are still considered the first choice of riders. This step of Royal Enfield can prove to be a new chapter for the company, where it will move forward by preserving its centuries-old heritage with modern technology.
