Haridwar: At a wedding ceremony in Roorkee, the marriage broke up due to the groom’s sudden greedy demands, leaving the bride and her family deeply traumatized. After the completion of the Nikah rituals, the groom, while taking the ‘Salami’, demanded a car worth Rs 20 lakh and Rs 10 lakh in cash. On hearing this, the happy atmosphere of the wedding turned into tension. An argument broke out between the two families, and some responsible people intervened to calm the matter. Even after this, when things did not work out, the groom’s wedding procession returned without the bride.
This incident is of a marriage procession coming from a village in Jhabreda police station area, which created tension in Ganganahar police station area. This immoral demand of the groom angered the relatives and society of both the parties. When the groom’s demand was not agreed to, a settlement of Rs 16 lakh was proposed, but the bride’s family rejected this too. Ultimately, after getting the divorce papers signed by both the parties, the procession was sent back.
Engagement happened 7 months ago
The bride’s family told that the engagement took place about 7 months ago, and at that time the boy was in Saudi Arabia. They were also relatives and had no idea that the boy would be so greedy. After the incident, resentment was expressed on social media towards the people of the village from where the procession had come. People believe that those who make such huge demands for dowry should be thrown out of the society so that such incidents do not happen again.

Many social and fraternity people opined that people who promote evil practice like dowry should be socially boycotted. It is believed that if strict steps are not taken against such people, it will have adverse effects on the entire society.
