Nowadays, there are many fruits which are imported from abroad due to their demand in India. Seeing the huge demand for those fruits, farmers of Uttarakhand have also started cultivating those fruits. Due to this, the income of not only the government but also the farmers is increasing rapidly. Kiwi, this fruit has become very popular in India. Earlier this fruit was imported to India from New Zealand, but in view of the increasing demand, now the farmers of the state are also cultivating it extensively. Farmers are also cultivating Kiwi in Mukteshwar of Nainital district, due to which their economy is improving.
Farmer Deep Chandra Pandey of Kokilbana Gram Sabha of Nainital district is cultivating kiwi these days. This belt is known for its fruits. Apple is mainly cultivated here, but for the last few years, farmers here are also cultivating Kiwi, due to which they are getting good profits. Through the Kiwi market here, it is reaching every corner of the country including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata.
Garden developed for Kiwi
Farmer Deep Chandra Pandey tells Local 18 that he was the first to cultivate kiwi in his village. He got this information through the agricultural awareness camp of the self-help group. After which he brought three trees from the nursery located in Ninglat near Bhawali and planted Kiwi in his field, which are bearing very good fruits today. Now he is also developing a garden for kiwi. Now the villagers are also producing kiwi and selling it in the market. He told that Kiwi fruit becomes ready in the month of October-November. The price of one kiwi in the market ranges from Rs 50 to Rs 60, while they do not get a fair price from the market. He has appealed to the government to promote kiwi production in this area.
