Nainital – The doors of the world famous Kedarnath Dham were closed for the winter season as per the rituals on 3rd November. This year also lakhs of devotees reached Kedarnath Dham for the darshan of Mahadev. People’s faith in Kedarnath is continuously increasing. On the other hand, the peaceful and beautiful valleys of Kedarnath are also getting polluted by the plastic and garbage brought by the people. Nainital’s nature lover and young tracker Satyam Bhatt has taken up the responsibility of making Kedarnath plastic free. Satyam along with his group campaigned in Kedarnath for four days and covered 22 km of Kedarnath. A plastic-free cleanliness campaign has been launched around the temple including the trekking route.
During a special conversation with Local 18, Satyam told that through his group THE EXPLORER (be a good traveler) in collaboration with various government and non-government organizations, he has covered the 25 kilometer route track in Kedarnath and the surrounding areas with plastic. A four-day cleanliness campaign was conducted to free it from garbage. In which 20 members of his team were included. In this campaign, his team cleaned the Kedarnath temple complex and the Kedarnath walkway. In which cooperation was given by the members of Nagar Panchayat and District Panchayat.
Satyam said that about 30 tonnes of garbage was removed from Kedarnath by his team members. Which was brought down from Kedarnath with the help of the municipality and the garbage was disposed of. He told that when people go to Himalayan areas, they should not take plastic items with them. He told that most of the plastic bottles were found in the garbage. There are water sources at many places in the Kedarnath track. Instead of buying a water bottle, it is better that people carry a bottle with them from home and keep filling it from sources on the way. This will also reduce the use of plastic bottles.
