According to experts, this time is suitable for sowing mustard. In hilly areas, most of the farmers sow wheat along with mustard, which makes it a profitable deal for them. If farmers choose good varieties of mustard in hilly areas, they can get double profits. Ishwar, an agricultural expert from the Department of Horticulture, Garhwal University, told Local 18 that the yield of any crop depends on its seeds. If the seed is of good quality, the yield is also good.
Ishwar Singh told that there is a lot of consumption of mustard oil in India, hence farmers also start struggling to get good production of mustard by sowing with improved quality seeds. In such a situation, Pant Yellow Mustard is a good option for the farmers of hilly areas. Pant Yellow Mustard requires 4 to 5 irrigations from sowing to harvesting. Where there is no irrigation facility. Its average yield in one hectare has been measured up to 10 quintals. This variety becomes ready for harvesting in about 4 months.
Best option for less water
Ishwar Singh told that Pusa Mustard 26 is suitable for both hilly and lowland areas. This variety of mustard is ready in about 120 days and is considered the best variety for rain-fed farming. Its average yield per hectare is up to 10 quintals, although its yield may change depending on season and climate.
Production will be up to 15 quintals per hectare
Ishwar Singh told that Pusa 27 is a high productivity mustard variety. This variety is known for its disease resistance and good oil production. From sowing to harvesting, it is ready in about 110 days and gives an average production of 15 quintals per hectare. Also, this variety does not require much water.
Better production with less irrigation
Ishwar Singh said that Pant Toraya-1 is mainly suitable for mountainous areas. This variety is mainly known for high oil production and better disease resistance. This variety becomes ready in 120 to 130 days. It gives good yield even with less irrigation and gives production of about 10 quintals per hectare. This variety is becoming more popular in hilly areas because less irrigation facilities are available in these areas.
First choice of farmers in hilly areas
Ishwar Singh said that Pant Toraya-2 is also a good variety for hilly areas. This mustard variety requires only one irrigation and is ready in 90 days. It produces about 15 quintals per hectare, hence it has become the first choice for the farmers of hilly areas.
