The company unveiled Bajaj Pulsar NS160 flex fuel model.Flex fuel Pulsar will be introduced in the market by March 2025.Flex fuel vehicles can run on 80% ethanol mixture.
New Delhi. Bajaj Auto has recently launched the world’s first CNG bike Freedom 125. This shows that the company is continuously working on clean fuel technology. Now the company has revealed the new flex fuel version of its famous bike Bajaj Pulsar NS160 at the India Bio-Energy and Tech (IBET) Expo 2024. Products related to sustainable fuels are showcased in this two-day expo. Which was organized jointly by Indian Federation of Green Energy and MM Active Sci-Tech Communications.
Flex fuel is an alternative fuel whose use is being emphasized nowadays. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari is also emphasizing on introducing vehicles running on flex fuel to reduce petrol consumption. Actually, flex fuel is a mixture of fuels like petrol, ethanol or methanol which causes less pollution when burnt. At present, the Government of India has allowed the sale of E20 flex fuel in the country. E20 flex fuel contains a mixture of 80% petrol and 20% ethanol. However, the government plans to promote vehicles running on 100% ethanol.
Vehicles will run on 100% ethanol
Companies like Maruti Suzuki and TVS have introduced vehicles running on 100% ethanol. At the same time, it is clear from the increasing interest of many other companies in this direction that in the coming time, vehicles running on 80-100% ethanol or flex fuel will replace vehicles running on petrol and diesel. In Brazil and other South American countries, consumption of E80/100 fuel is very high and it would make sense to develop a flex fuel bike for the purpose of selling it in those countries. Because companies like Bajaj and TVS also have a big presence in these countries.
How is Flex Fuel Pulsar?
The company says that Bajaj Pulsar NS160 Flex Fuel runs on a mixture of ethanol and petrol. Apart from this, Bajaj Auto has not yet given much information about the bike. Recently, Bajaj Auto Managing Director Rajiv Bajaj had said that the ethanol-powered bike could be launched by March 2025.
India too is expected to move towards E80/E100 fuel. If companies prepare flex fuel vehicles in advance, it will become easier to capture the market. Apart from this, emphasis will also have to be laid on making them economical to reach the common customers.
The petrol-powered Pulsar NS160 has a single-cylinder engine of 160.3 cc capacity, which generates power of 17.2PS and torque of 14.6Nm. The suspension setup includes telescopic fork and monoshock while for braking, a 300 mm front disc brake and 230 mm rear disc brake have been used.
