As winter approaches, creating a warm and inviting ambiance indoors becomes essential since you’ll likely be spending more time at home
Cosy interiors, beautiful and bright colours and a hot cuppa, winter’s here. As the winter season approaches, creating a warm, inviting ambiance indoors becomes essential after all the maximum time you would be spending is at home in your quilts and stuck to the heater, lol! Not literally! Never taken a plunge when it comes to creating cosy and lovely homes, this is your cue to dip your feet this winters in the art of cozy.
Ar. Parul Agarwal VK, Design Director, FOAID Designs, says, “First and foremost, layering textures is the key. Introducing a mix of soft fabrics like chunky wool throws, velvet cushions, and faux fur blankets brings warmth and a touch of luxury to any space. Opt for rich, deep tones like burgundy, forest green, and midnight blue to create a grounding, intimate atmosphere while bringing in the Christmas cheer into the space.”
Layering on sofas, chairs, and beds instantly adds warmth and visual interest, transforming the space into a comfortable haven from the chill outside.
Krish Kothari, CEO and Principal Designer, KKD STUDIO, adds, “Begin with a neutral foundation, then build upon it with various textures and colours for depth and warmth. Think plush throws, fluffy pillows, and soft rugs in rich materials like wool, cashmere, and velvet to heighten the tactile experience. Harness natural light, even on shorter winter days, by placing mirrors strategically to reflect light and brighten the room. Sheer curtains allow soft sunlight to filter in, while darker, heavier drapes create an intimate nook for reading or relaxing when desired.
Lighting
Next, consider lighting—an essential yet often overlooked element in winter decor. “Soft, ambient lighting can completely alter a room’s mood. Swap out bright, overhead lights for warm-toned fixtures and incorporate vintage table lamps, floor lamps, and string lights to create a softer, more inviting glow. Candlelight is another winter staple; strategically placing candles or tealights around the room adds a cozy charm, making your space feel intimate and calm. Scented candles with warm, woodsy scents like mahogany, cinnamon, and vanilla not only enhance the decor but also contribute to the seasonal feel,” suggests Agarwal.
A perfect fireplace
A fireplace can be the ultimate focal point for cozy gatherings. “Whether it’s traditional wood-burning or modern gas or electric, it instantly warms up the space, adding charm and comfort. Arrange comfortable seating, soft lighting, and a curated selection of books or magazines around it for a perfect fireside experience,” shares Kothari.
Texture further enhances coziness by adding dimension; incorporate woven baskets, knitted throws, and textured wall coverings that create a warm, layered feel.
Finally, embrace the winter season with thoughtful decor accents. “Classic luxurious coffee table books, plaid throws, and ceramic mugs ready for hot cocoa add a personal touch that makes a home truly feel like a retreat. Incorporating these elements thoughtfully will help create a well-rounded, snug space for the season,” sums up Kothari.
