After almost three years, 11 accused involved in the famous case that took place in Lakhimpur Kheri Tikunia in October 2021 have been granted regular bail by the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court. These include Ankit Das and other key accused, who were in jail in this case.

Eight people lost their lives in the incident, after which all of them were sent to jail. All the accused were already on interim bail, but now the court has also granted them regular bail conditionally. The court made it clear that in case of non-cooperation in the trial, the bail can be cancelled.

This incident took place on October 3, 2021, when during the farmers’ movement in Tikunia, Lakhimpur Kheri, Ashish Mishra alias Monu, son of the then Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Teni, was accused of ramming a Thar vehicle on four protesting farmers and a journalist. Due to which he died. After this, angry protesters killed Ashish Mishra’s driver and two other people.
The police revealed the names of several others during the investigation, including Ankit Das, Nandan Singh Bisht, Latif alias Kale, Satyam Tripathi, Shekhar Bharti, Dharmendra Singh Banjara, Ashish Pandey, Rinku Rana, Ullas Kumar Trivedi, Lavkush, Sumit Jaiswal and Shishupala is included. The state government and the plaintiff’s counsel had opposed the bail. He said that the release of these accused could affect the trial. However, after hearing the arguments of both the parties, the court ordered that the accused be granted regular bail on the condition of cooperating in the trial.
