Dehradun: Since Diwali, a decline in air quality has been recorded in Dehradun and other major cities of Uttarakhand. Before Diwali, the air quality was normal, but with the increase in cold the pollution level has increased. Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board (UPCB) conducted 24-hour AQI (Air Quality Index) monitoring for 15 days in 13 major cities including Dehradun, in which the air quality was checked in the days before and after Diwali.
Increase in pollution in Dehradun
The air quality was tested in the areas around Ghantaghar, Nehru Colony and Doon University in Dehradun. According to the report, the AQI near Ghantaghar remained more than 100 in the last 15 days, which was generally satisfactory. However, as the cold increased, the air quality started deteriorating.

Between October 31 and November 2, the air quality around Ghantaghar in Dehradun remained in critical condition. On October 31, AQI reached 288, which indicates a very poor level. Although the AQI dropped slightly on November 1, it remained above 240, which was unhealthy. By November 7, AQI improved and reached 113, which can be considered satisfactory to some extent.
Pollution problem in Rishikesh also
The impact of pollution is also increasing in Rishikesh, which is a major religious place. The air quality was checked in the municipal corporation and surrounding areas of AIIMS, where the AQI remained more than 100, which was more polluted than normal. This situation can cause health problems for local citizens and tourists.
UPCB’s initiative towards pollution control
Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board is making continuous efforts to monitor and control pollution. The board conducted comprehensive AQI monitoring in 13 major cities and issued guidelines to make measures effective to control pollution levels across the state. Officials say that steps will soon be taken to control this increasing pollution, so that the health of the citizens is not affected.
