Almora. There are many artists of Uttarakhand who are working to promote folk music. At the same time they are also creating their own identity. Today we are going to introduce you to one such young artist, whose name is Suraj Prakash. Suraj is a resident of Almora district. In an exclusive conversation with Local 18, Suraj told that when he was three years old, his father made him sit in front of the harmonium. After which his interest in music increased. By the time he reached class three, he had learned to play the harmonium. After this he started singing folk songs in school programs. He was slowly making a place in the hearts of people.
He said that in earlier times, Pahari used to make albums of songs, in which 8 songs were recorded together, but due to lack of money at that time, he could not record the songs. After which he went out to work. Suraj told that when his aunt’s son asked him to record his song, he met Jitendra sir in this regard. His first song O Hima was released in the year 2018. After this, three of his songs were released in the next year i.e. 2019. Gradually people started knowing him and loving his voice.
Mountain folk songs will reach India and abroad
He said that the year 2022 is the most precious year of his life. Saruli Basanta Jhoda, released that year, was liked very much by the people. Sooraj said that he thanks composers Govind Digari and Khushi Joshi, who gave him this opportunity. Suraj told that he has sung about 30 songs till now. He will continue to work towards promoting the culture of his mountains and will take his folk songs to India and abroad. He mostly sings Jhoda, Chanchari, Chhapeli, Neoli and will take this forward only.
