KOLKATA: A diabetes specialty hospital in Kolkata conducted ‘Mobile Instant Diabetes Check’ across Kolkata coinciding with the World Diabetes Day 2024. The five day long instant diabetes screening by GD Hospital & Diabetes Institute (GDHDI) that concluded on Friday have benefitted close to 400 individuals. The hospital also launched an array of initiatives for raising awareness and promoting preventive measures for diabetes.
The mobile screening unit covered prominent locations like railway stations, bus stops, and busy intersections from Shyambazar to Gariahat. Through this effort, the Hospital aimed to encourage early detection and raise awareness about the importance of regular monitoring.
A significant highlight of the initiative was the Continuing Medical Education (CME) session, bringing together experts, medical professionals, and community health leaders. Chaired by Prof. Dr Sukumar MukherjeeChairman of the hospital, the session featured distinguished speakers, including Dr Nilanjan Sengupta and Dr Shaibal Chakraborty, Chief Medical Advisor. The CME offered an in-depth discussion on diabetes managementrecent advances in treatment, and preventive approaches.
Musrefa Hossain, CEO of GDHDI said, “With the increasing prevalence of diabetes, our goal was to make health checks accessible and convenient. We aimed to engage the community in a meaningful way, bridging the gap between healthcare facilities and the public.”
Of all those screened through the campaign doctors found around 27% falling under the diabetic range.
As a visual emblem of its commitment to World Diabetes Day, the hospital’s main building was illuminated with blue lights on the nights of November 13, 14 and 15Diabetes specialist Kolkata hospital travelled through the city with mobile screening unit.
Additionally, on November 14, the hospital’s premises, including the reception, OPD areas, and front office, were adorned with blue and white balloons, posters, and standees dedicated to World Diabetes Day. The hospital’s senior consultants shared impactful messages on diabetes awareness through videos that were broadcast on the hospital’s internal TV network and shared across social media platforms. The team prepared an animated audio- visual presentation to educate the public on the significance of diabetes awareness, which was made available to all visitors on World Diabetes Day.
