This service has been named IFTV and is based on BSNL’s fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network. Under this new service, BSNL is providing more than 500 live TV channels and Pay TV content in high quality to its customers. This will not only give a new direction to entertainment, but will also reduce internet expenses.
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has recently unveiled its new logo as well as 6 new services. Prominent among these services is the fiber-based intranet TV service, which is named IFTV (Internet Fiber TV).
BSNL has currently launched this service in Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, where consumers will enjoy more than 500 live TV channels. Apart from this, data used for TV streaming under BSNL’s IFTV service will not be deducted from the user’s data pack. Instead, IFTV service is being provided with unlimited data. This facility is being provided to BSNL FTTH customers without any extra charge.
OTT and other entertainment facilities
This new service of BSNL is not limited to live channels only. The company has also added major OTT platforms such as Amazon Price Video, Disney Plus Hotstar, Netflix, YouTube and Zee5 to this service. Apart from this, gaming facility will also be available for BSNL customers. However, this service will currently work only on Android TV. Those customers whose TV has Android 10 or above can avail this service by downloading the BSNL Live TV app from Google Play Store.
What was BSNL thinking in doing this?
This move by BSNL is an expansion of the Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) service launched earlier this year. According to the company, the aim of this new initiative is to make the service secure, affordable and reliable. Along with this, BSNL has launched another facility, called ‘National Wi-Fi Roaming Service’, under which customers can avail high-speed internet at BSNL hotspots across the country and reduce their data expenses.
