Last Tuesday, a four-wheeler fell off the road in Petshal, Almora, causing injuries to the occupants and a major accident was averted. Road accidents are continuously increasing in the mountains. Regarding this, the team of Local 18 tried to know the opinion of the general public of Almora through public opinion.
Bad roads are one reason
Local resident Puran Rautela said that more than half of the road accidents occur due to poor road condition and sometimes road accidents also occur due to overloading and speeding. There are many buses and vehicles whose permits have expired but they are still running on the road. There are many such vehicles which need to be controlled because their high speed poses a danger to passengers and pedestrians.
Accidents happen due to many reasons
Another local resident Bharat Pandey said that there are many reasons for the road accidents that happen in the mountains. Road accidents also occur due to over speed, potholes in the road, overloading and mechanical problems of vehicles. Police and transport department cannot do checking at every place, hence people need to be aware of the danger they pose if they overload and drive at high speed.
He told that in Marchula incident, if two-three vehicles had been deployed for festivals, then this incident would not have happened. In view of this, the government and administration should arrange vehicles for other places, so that people can easily reach from one destination to another. Especially when there may be crowd like during festival season, arrangements should be made and attentive.
there should be a speed limit
Regarding this, local resident Surendra Singh Bisht said that all vehicles running in the mountains should have a speed limit. If anyone drives at over speed, immediate action should be taken against him. Roads should be good so that accidents can be prevented. Many times he has seen that people drive under the influence of alcohol in the evening. He believes that the police administration and transport department should check those places and strict action should be taken against such people by installing alcohol meters and running a checking campaign. . It is very unfortunate the way accidents are happening in Uttarakhand.
Addiction is also a big reason
Regarding this, local resident Suraj Tiwari said that many times accidents happen due to intoxication, apart from this, nowadays the youth also drive at high speed. Also, many times, due to less number of vehicles in the hilly districts, people end up overloading the vehicle due to which road accidents occur. He believes that everyone needs to be aware about this. If people are not aware of this, road accidents will increase further. Apart from this, he also said that there should be crush barriers and safety walls on the roadside so that accidents can be controlled to some extent.
