Haridwar. After the bus accident in Almora district of Uttarakhand, the transport and police department is continuously checking regarding overloading. In this series, the police caught an overloaded private bus in Shyampur area of Haridwar, in which passengers were crammed far beyond its capacity. This checking campaign is being conducted on the instructions of SSP Pramendra Dobal. After the recent bus accident in Almora, he had given strict orders that action should be taken against every overloaded vehicle, so that the chances of road accidents can be reduced.
A police team under the leadership of Shyampur police station in-charge Nitesh Sharma was checking on Najibabad Highway. During checking, he stopped a private bus which was coming from Haridwar. There was seating arrangement for 51 people in this bus, but 85 people were crammed into it. In this packed bus, the passengers were made to sit on each other’s lap and some passengers were also made to stand on the footboard of the bus. In this condition, the balance of the bus could get disturbed, which could lead to a major accident at any time.
Policemen were surprised
When the policemen saw the scene inside the bus, they were shocked. He immediately reprimanded the driver and conductor of the bus and took strict action and seized the bus on the spot. Also, it was explained to the driver and conductor that overloading endangers the lives of passengers and is a serious crime. The police also issued a challan to the bus and warned it not to repeat such a mistake in future. The police also made the passengers present there aware and advised them not to travel in overloaded buses for safe travel.
Campaign against overloading will continue
SSP Pramendra Dobal said that the campaign against overloading will continue. More passengers were seated in the private bus than its capacity. Action was taken as per the rules, and it was also explained to the passengers that the possibility of an accident increases manifold due to overloading and everyone should be alert against such carelessness.
