What Is Vitiligo?
Vitiligo is a common autoimmune disorder that affects 0.5 to 1 percent of the population. It causes the skin to lose pigment, resulting in white patches. The patches can appear on the face, neck, hands, or knees. While the cause of this condition is unknown, studies suggest that immune system changes, genetic factors, stress, or sun exposure are at play. Treatments can stop the progression of patches but not cure it entirely.
