Dehradun: For painting lovers, excellent art is being displayed in Dehradun. A painting exhibition is being organized from 20th November at Chitra Art Gallery located in Alkapuri near Ballupur, Dehradun. The brilliant artists of Kolkata have reached here. Here you will get to see the traditional Kalighat art of Kolkata. Director of Chitra Art Gallery, Arvind Gairola has said that there are different paintings in our country but every art gives some message.
Confluence of art and culture
He has said that art crosses borders and reaches far and wide. Today, artists from the land of Bengal have reached Devbhoomi Uttarakhand and a confluence of art and culture of Bengal and Uttarakhand is being seen in Chitra Art Gallery. About 38 painters have brought their beautiful paintings from Kolkata Talent Search School, West Bengal. If anyone wants to come to see this exhibition then it is free and will be held from 20th November to 22nd November till 2 pm.
From 11:00 am to 7:00 pm you can view and buy paintings. Gyanendra Kumar, senior painter of Uttarakhand and recipient of Uttarakhand Gaurav Samman, also reached the art gallery to see the wonderful arts. He said that such events should be organized from time to time so that we can become familiar with each other’s culture and arts.

Artist Rupali, who came from Kolkata, told Local 18 that she has tried to show Lord Shiva and the Himalayas through her art and how Mahadev lived in the Himalayas of Uttarakhand. Swaroop Chakraborty, who came to Dehradun from Hooghly in West Bengal, told that he is a journalist by profession but has been associated with art for the last 6-7 years. Whenever he gets time, he starts making paintings. He said that he feels very good after coming to Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. Pompey Majumdar said that this is a great opportunity to connect with the art of the artists here and the village and culture of Uttarakhand.
What is the specialty of Bengal’s art?
Pompey Majumdar told that Kalighat painting is a traditional art of Bengal which started in the Kalighat temple of Kolkata in the 19th century. In this, characters from our religious and traditional legends are depicted. In particular, gods and goddesses are depicted in it. Earlier, folk tales were narrated by making Kalighat patchitras. These were made on cloth or palm leaf. He said that you can see Kalighat paintings on temples, historical buildings as well as railway stations etc.
