You may already be aware of worms lurking inside, but occasionally, cauliflowers can harbour more dangerous creatures
In winter, vegetable prices drop compared to other seasons. While most vegetables are available year-round, their true flavour is best enjoyed in their natural season. Cauliflower, for instance, is found throughout the year, but its taste is unmatched during winter. However, if you are among those who love eating cauliflower during this season, it is important to be cautious.
Many people simply rinse vegetables with water before cooking, but this approach is not enough, especially with cauliflower. You may already be aware of worms lurking inside, but occasionally, cauliflowers can harbour more dangerous creatures.
A viral video on social media recently showed a shocking discovery, a snake hidden inside a cauliflower bought by a customer.
Follow These Steps To Ensure Your Cauliflower Is Safe For Consumption
- Always buy fresh cauliflower, avoiding those with visible spots or signs of damage.
- Cut the cauliflower into small florets and spread them out to check for worms, which are typically light green and difficult to spot.
- Fill a bowl with water, add salt, and boil the florets for one to two minutes. This kills and removes worms while reducing pesticide residues.
- To retain the texture of the florets during cooking, transfer them to ice water for a minute after boiling. Once cleaned, store the cauliflower in a plastic bag in the refrigerator for later use.
