Rishikesh: The month of Margashirsha, also known as Agahan month, has special religious significance according to the Hindu calendar. It comes after Kartik and is considered dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Tulsi worship is especially important in the month of Margashirsha. By worshiping Tulsi in this month, a person gets happiness, prosperity and good health. Tulsi has a very sacred place in Hindu religion and it is considered to be the form of Goddess Lakshmi. By planting and worshiping Tulsi in the house, negative energy is eliminated and positive energy is transmitted.
During a conversation with Local 18, Shubham Tiwari, priest of Shri Sacha Akhileshwar Mahadev Temple located in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, said that the month of Margashirsha has started from November 16 in 2024. There is a special rule for worshiping Tulsi in the month of Margashirsha, in which water is offered to Tulsi before sunrise and a lamp is lit in the evening. The importance of worshiping Tulsi also increases because this month is considered extremely auspicious from the religious point of view and worshiping Lord Krishna and reciting Geeta in this month also gives special results.
Importance of Tulsi worship in Margashis month
It is believed that special blessings of Lord Vishnu are received in this month. Worshiping the Tulsi plant during the month of Margashirsha brings happiness and peace in the family and brings wealth. Offering water to the Tulsi plant and lighting a lamp is considered auspicious. It is said that by worshiping Tulsi in the month of Margashirsha, sins are destroyed and the person attains salvation. Apart from having religious importance, the Tulsi plant also has medicinal properties, which are beneficial for health. The name of Margashirsha month is also believed to have come from the mouth of Lord Krishna. In Srimad Bhagavad Gita, Lord Shri Krishna has said, “Maasaan Margashirshoham” i.e. I am Margashirsha in months. Thus, the importance of Margashirsha and the religious nature of Tulsi worship brings peace and prosperity in life. Worshiping Tulsi with devotion and faith in this month makes one a partaker of immense virtue.
