Dehradun. Today Constitution Day is being celebrated in the country. On this Constitution Day, some youth are starting a hunger strike at the Martyr Memorial of Dehradun. These youth are demanding to save the state from land mafia. These youth are demanding to bring strong land law in Uttarakhand on the lines of Himachal. After the police locked the main gate of the Martyr Memorial, the youth have started a hunger strike outside the main gate of the Martyr Memorial. It is noteworthy that the Native Residence and Land Law Coordination Sangharsh Committee had announced a hunger strike at the Martyr Memorial from today to press for their demands.
Convenor of Sangharsh Committee Mohit Dimri has told Local 18 that about 20 hectares of land worth crores of rupees in village Fatehpur of Rishikesh was given free of cost to the Institute of Himalayan Ayurvedic Yoga and Naturopathy for the medical college and hospital, whereas under the section of the Land Management Act 1950. There is a clear provision in 132 that pasture, barren, river and public use land cannot be given on lease or for commercial interest. At the same time, people from other states have bought the land of Uttarakhand and created concrete forests in the mountains, the consequences of which we will have to suffer.
Conspiracy to settle outsiders
Meanwhile, committee co-coordinator Pranjal Naudiyal said that the government is conspiring to arbitrarily settle outsiders by bringing an ordinance overnight. But the police locked the main gate of the martyr memorial. Martyr Memorial in Uttarakhand is no less than a temple and the temple is never locked. What the government did to this temple is very shameful.
Movement to save Uttarakhand
Committee co-coordinator Lushun Todaria said that the mountains which used to be the identity of Uttarakhand are being sold and construction is being done there. Its impact is on the climate. Glaciers are melting, this is a matter of concern not only for Uttarakhand but for the whole world. President of Devbhoomi Yuva Sangathan, Ashish Nautiyal said that we are continuously demanding to make a law for land law and original residence, but the government is neither doing anything for the youth nor for the state. Our elders first started agitating to create a state and now we have to agitate to save it.
Why did the groom join the movement?
A groom also joined this movement. Actually, this groom is none other than Suresh Payal, a 50-year-old army retiree. He reaches the mass movement in different getups. He says that the unemployed youth of Uttarakhand are on the streets and are demanding land laws. Today the youth of the hills are not getting married because the girls’ parents want the boys’ government jobs and land. Payal says that 50 years old Uttarakhand is no more. If the people of the state want Uttarakhand as before, then everyone should together raise the demand for implementation of strong land law in Uttarakhand.
