BHU was given the best university award. BHU was given this honor for its contribution in correctly adopting the National Geospatial Policy, Indian Space Policy and spreading awareness and participation in many initiatives of IIT-Bombay, Fossey and GIS.

Not only this, Dr. Prashant Kumar Srivastava, a scientist from the Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development in BHU, received the National Geospatial Faculty Fellow Award. This year a total of six scientists from across the country have received this award. Dr. Prashant is the youngest scientist in this.

Students will get a chance to do internship and fellowship
This honor has been given by FOSSI (Free/Open and Open Source Software for Education), an organization developed by IIT-Bombay under the Ministry of Education. The Jury Committee of the National Geospatial Award has decided the names of the winners of this award. Dr. Prashant Kumar Srivastava said that after this award received by the university, the science students here will now get the opportunity to do internship and fellowship. There will also be a chance to participate in summer-winter vacation research and many big conferences. The university will now work in collaboration with other reputed institutions and government agencies.
Extract satellite data of a particular area
Dr. Prashant Kumar Srivastava said that geospatial technology helps in extracting complete real-time data of a large area. Geospatial means giving complete details of an area. By connecting to satellite, it becomes easy to extract data about land sliding, identification of drought areas and flood affected areas. This technology is being used a lot in the field of disaster management.
Scientists say- students will get benefit in doing research.
Now these facilities will be provided to science students in BHU
• From the year 2025, students will get an opportunity to do national geospatial internship in any institute of the country.
• Will get the opportunity to do research in winter and summer school at IIT Bombay.
• Students will also get National Geospatial Research Fellowship.
• Students here can participate in national level GIS industry-academic conferences.
• Will have the opportunity to become a knowledge partner in all activities of Fossey GIS.
