District Sports Officer Nirmala Pant said while talking to Local 18 that the grass in the cricket ground is being removed and grass is being planted in it for football matches. The construction agency has ordered rye seeds from London. Players from all over the country will come to Golpar Stadium for the 38th National Games. New grass is being grown by removing a layer of grass from the cricket stadium pitch.
He said that this grass is being grown on 110 meter length and 75 meter width. Apart from this, this grass is also being grown on the banks. Nirmala Pant said that only about Rs 2.5 crores are being spent on preparing the ground. The ground is expected to be ready by the end of December. The most popular grass for football pitches is rye grass, which is also called perennial ryegrass because it does not turn yellow like normal grass. Besides, this grass grows very fast and is also very durable. This is the most common grass type in both the US and UK. This grass is suitable for every season. Besides, it is also softer than other grasses.
Rye grass is being used for the first time in Uttarakhand
The construction company said that rye grass is being used for the first time for a football ground in Uttarakhand. Till now it has been used in places like Delhi, Bhubaneswar, Jamshedpur, Pune etc.
When will the National Games be held?
It is noteworthy that the 38th National Games will be organized in Uttarakhand from 28 January to 14 February next year. The National Games of India is an Olympic style multi-sport event, where players from different states and union territories of India compete for medals.
