Nainital: At present, hand, foot and mouth disease is being seen in children all over the country. This disease has started appearing in children in Nainital of Uttarakhand also. Every day 4 to 5 children are arriving at BD Pandey District Hospital in Nainital suffering from this disease. Hand, foot and mouth disease is an infectious disease that mainly affects young children. It is usually caused by a virus called Coxsackievirus.
These symptoms are visible
Symptoms of this disease include fever, sore throat and small blisters or rashes on hands, feet and mouth. Children also have difficulty in eating and drinking due to these ulcers. This disease usually spreads through coughing, sneezing or coming in contact with an infected person. Children suffer a lot from this disease.
Dr. Ravindra Singh Mer, pediatrician of BD Pandey District Hospital, Nainital, says that hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) is spreading among children these days. Cases of this disease are coming daily in Nainital also. He told that this disease is occurring more in children whose immunity is weak. This is a type of viral disease which is spreading among children below 5 years of age. He told that if symptoms of this disease are seen in children then there is no need to panic, the child should be immediately taken to the nearest hospital.

Doctor Mer explains that by adopting some precautions in case of Hand, Foot and Mouth disease (HFMD), it can be prevented from spreading. He told that other children should be kept away from the child infected with this disease. This disease spreads through handshake, eating, sneezing, coughing and phlegm. A handkerchief should be placed in the child’s mouth while coughing and sneezing. Also, the child’s hands should be washed before eating. Medicine should be taken only on the advice of the doctor. He told that it takes 7 to 10 days to cure this disease.
