By transferring the No Claim Bonus (NCB) of your old car, you can save a lot of money on the insurance of your new car. The policyholder gets no claim bonus if he has not taken any kind of claim in the previous year. This discount is given on the Own Damage (OD) premium.
What is the maximum amount of NCB a customer can avail? Initially the NCB on your own damage insurance is 0%. If you do not file any claim then NCB increases every year. It can range between 20-50 percent. If you do not file a claim in the first year, you get 20% NCB. It increases to 25 percent in the second year, 35 percent in the third year, 45 percent in the fourth year and 50 percent in the fifth year.
Transfer NCB to new insurance policy No claim bonuses are not just linked to the vehicle, but are linked to the policyholder. This means that you can transfer the NCB of your old vehicle to any new vehicle, irrespective of the brand. However, it is worth noting that NCBs can be transferred only between similar types of vehicles i.e. car to car and bike to bike. The owner of the vehicle should also not change.
