Popular rap-based reality show MTV Hustle has been receiving flak from social media users. The #ShameOnMTVHUSTLE started trending today (December 2) after it was alleged that MTV was putting its force to shut down the YouTube channel of comedian Rohan Cariappa. It all started when Rohan posted several videos criticising and making jokes about the rap show. This move has sparked outrage among fans and followers, many of whom have rallied behind Rohan, expressing support for his freedom of speech and condemning the alleged actions by MTV.
The first video posted by Rohan Cariappa on his Instagram Stories showed the comedian scrolling on his laptop. He offered fans a glimpse of all the strikes he received. “50 plus strikes,” he wrote and added to crying emojis.
The following snap consisted of the screenshot where Rohan Cariappa received a message from YouTube saying, “Your video was removed due to copyright removal and your YouTube channel is scheduled to be removed on December 7, 2024.” The rest of the note highlighted the guidelines and some “what you can do” steps. Rohan’s side note read, “The channel shuts down on the 7th … Killswitch aur Danish ke baad mera bhi elimination ho raha hai (I have been eliminated after Killswitch and Danish.)” Rappers Killswitch and Danish were the two contestants of MTV Hustle.
Soon after Rohan Cariappa’s post emerged on Instagram, naysayers were quick to slam MTV Hustle on X (formerly Twitter).
“Rohan Carriappa’s channel might get deleted. These f****ers run a show whose slogan is “Hip-hop doesn’t stop” but can’t handle criticism! MTV Hustle shame on you… Rohan, don’t go easy on them,” said an angry person.

“Rohan Cariappa, who contributed to MTV Hustle Season 2, is now being silenced with 50 strikes for his creative criticism. The irony? Their tagline is “Hip Hop Don’t Stop,” but they’re stopping an honest creator,” commented another.

An individual pointed out, “These companies profit from the culture and then start thinking of themselves as superior. Rohan’s contribution to the Desi Hip-Hop is far greater than that of these money-makers.”
