Almora: Green cess is going to be implemented in Uttarakhand from 2025 on the lines of Himachal Pradesh. This system will strengthen the economy in the entire state and will also help a lot in environmental protection. Actually, Uttarakhand Transport Department is planning to connect about 17 rooms located on the borders of the state with new technology, due to which green cess will now be collected from all the vehicles coming from outside states. Earlier, this fee was charged only from heavy commercial vehicles, but now this fee will be charged from private and small vehicles also.
Private vehicles will also pay green cess!
Actually, green cess is collected from all heavy vehicles coming to Uttarakhand. Revenue of about Rs 6 crore is collected from this. When the new scheme will be implemented from the new year and private vehicles will also be included in it, the revenue can reach around Rs 75 crore. If we compare Himachal Pradesh with Uttarakhand, the green cess of Uttarakhand is still very low. If the state government increases it, then the state can earn an income of more than Rs 150 crore annually.
Modern technology will be used in green cess
To make this new system successful in the state, the Transport Department will implement the Automatic Green Cess Connection System with a private company. For this the department has also started the tender process. The company will also be selected by the first week of December. With the implementation of the new system, the data of every vehicle entering the state will be registered in the centre.
For this, with the help of Intelligent Tolling System (ITS), the process of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) will also start through cameras. This system can be implemented soon, due to which some amount will automatically be deducted from the wallets of vehicles coming from outside and will reach the government in the form of green cess. The government will benefit greatly from this.
