US senator Chuck Schumer found himself repeatedly dodging questions from reporters regarding President Joe Biden’s recent pardon of his son, Hunter Biden, in the case of tax fraud and illegal gun handling. In a series of interviews, Schumer consistently responded with the same words: “I got nothin’ for ya.”
The ongoing line of questioning centred on the controversial pardon, with one reporter asking Schumer whether he agreed with fellow Democrats who had condemned the decision. Critics called the pardon “wrong, unwise, and a matter of personal interest.” However, Schumer stuck to his response, offering no further comment: “I got nothin’ for ya.”
One interviewer probed whether the pardon signalled a lack of honesty and transparency from President Joe Biden, especially considering the President’s previous pledge not to use his executive powers to intervene in his son’s legal matters. Schumer remained firm, repeating his answer: “I got nothin’ for ya.”
Schumer was again asked if the pardon set a poor example for the upcoming Trump administration in January, but his response was unchanged: “I got nothin’ for ya.”
Last week, US President Joe Biden granted Hunter Biden a full and unconditional pardon, reversing his earlier stance on not intervening in his son’s legal issues. The pardon covers federal gun and tax charges Hunter Biden faced for offences committed between January 1, 2014, and December 1, 2024, including all offences charged or prosecuted by Special Counsel David Weiss.
This decision was met with backlash from both Democrats and Republicans, who criticised it as an abuse of power in such a sensitive and powerful role.
