Following the death of the woman in stampede at the ‘Pushpa-2: The Rule’ premiere event, police have filed a case against actor Allu Arjun and his security team.
Mogadampalli Bhaskar could never have imagined that a late-night movie show of actor Allu Arjun’s ‘Pushpa-2: The Rule’ would turn tragic for his family, claiming the life of his wife, Revathi, and leaving his son, Sritej, a devoted fan of the film star, injured.
The incident occurred at the iconic Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad late on Wednesday night when a huge gathering of Arjun’s fans arrived to get a glimpse of their favourite actor, leading to a stampede-like situation.
“She donated liver, gave me life, and now she’s gone,” the 40-year-old grieving husband was quoted as saying by TOI. It’s learnt that Revathi donated her liver to Bhaskar in 2023. He is still in the recovery stage and is not currently employed.
Recalling the tragic movie night, Bhaskar said he took his wife and two kids to Sandhya Theatre as actor Allu Arjun himself was supposed to be in attendance at the premiere of the sequel to the 2021 ‘Pushpa’ film.
When the stampede broke out, Revathi was with Sritej and Bhaskar had moved away with his second kid Sanvi, who started crying seeing the huge crowd shouting for a glimpse of the movie star.
During the stampede, Revathi lost her life, and her son Sritej collapsed due to suffocation. He was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Reports claimed that Revathi was fatally injured while trying to protect Sritej as the crowd disorganised following a lathi charge by the police.
“Our son, Tej, is a huge fan of Allu Arjun. We came to the theatre because of him. Everyone calls my son ‘Pushpa.’ My son regained consciousness after the police performed CPR on him, and they rushed him to the hospital. Initially, my wife and kids went inside, and the fans were manageable. But when Allu Arjun arrived, the crowd surged, causing a stampede. The doctors say my son’s condition is critical. We demand action against Sandhya Theatre management for the tragedy,” said Revathi’s husband Bhaskar.
Allu Arjun, Others Booked
Following the death of Revathi in the stampede at the ‘Pushpa-2: The Rule’ premiere event, police have filed a case against actor Allu Arjun, his security team and the management team of Sandhya Theatre.
“A case has been filed under BNS section 105 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 118(1) r/w 3(5) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt) at Chikkadpally police station based on the complaint of the family members of the deceased person. It is being investigated,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Central Zone, Hyderabad Police, Akshansh Yadav was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
He assured the victim’s family that strict legal action would be taken against all those responsible for the chaotic situation inside the theatre that led to the woman’s death.
In an official statement, the DCP claimed that the theatre management team failed to inform the police about the presence of the actor and other cast members during the premiere event, which eventually led to mismanagement of the crowd.
