Miho Nakayama’s agency Big Apple released a statement confirming her sudden death.
Japanese actor-singer Miho Nakayama was reportedly found dead at her home in Tokyo. On Friday, December 6, the 54-year-old singer was discovered unresponsive in her bathtub by an acquaintance after she failed to appear for a scheduled work engagement. Soon, her colleague called the paramedics, who pronounced her dead at the scene.
As per a report by Koreaboo, authorities have confirmed that the beloved actress passed away after accidentally drowning while taking a bath, and they have ruled out any foul play. Police and Nakayama’s agency, Big Apple, have stated that they did not find any evidence of medication misuse or a suicide note at the scene. After the 54-year-old actress’ unfortunate death, her agency released a statement on her official website, expressing their shock and sadness.
Their statement read: “Today, December 6th, our talent Miho Nakayama was found dead at her home. We are deeply sorry to have to suddenly announce this to all the people involved who have always looked after her and to all the fans who have supported her, but this incident was so sudden that we, too, are shocked and saddened. We are currently investigating the cause of death and other details. We ask that media outlets be considerate of the family and relatives and refrain from excessive reporting and interviews.”
According to media reports, Miho Nakayama was scheduled to perform at a Christmas show in Osaka that same day. However, she cancelled the show, citing ill health as the reason.
Born in Tokyo, Japan, on March 1, 1970, Miho Nakayama is among the most celebrated names in the Japanese entertainment industry. In 1985, at the age of 14, she made her on-screen debut with the TV drama Maido Osawagase Shimasu. In June of the same year, she released her debut single, C, and also made her debut in films with the blockbuster Be-Bop High School.
Nakayama was instantly catapulted to fame and was also regarded as one of the most popular teen J-pop idols in the 1980s. Over the years, she has released some of the best J-pop songs, such as Waku Waku Sasete, Catch Me, and You’re My Only Shinin’ Star. Speaking of her acting career, she enjoyed an illustrious career featuring notable works like Love Letter and Tokyo Weather.
Miho Nakayama married musician and novelist Tsuji Hitonari in 2002 and moved to Paris. The two welcomed a son a year later. Unfortunately, the pair parted ways in 2014, and Nakayama moved back to Japan, where Tsuji retained custody of their son.
