NEW DELHI: Over 40 schools in Delhi received bomb threats via email on Monday, according to Delhi Police. The emails demanded a $30,000 ransom.

The threat stated: “I planted multiple bombs (lead azide, explosive compound used in detonators) inside the building. I planted multiple bombs inside the building. The bombs are small and hidden very well. It will not cause very much damage to the building, but many people will be injured when the bombs detonate. You all deserve to suffer and lose limbs. If I do not receive USD 30,000, I will detonate the bombs.”
A Delhi Fire Service (DFS) official said they received the first alerts about the bomb threats from DPS RK Puram (7.06 am) and GD Goenka Paschim Vihar (6.15 am). Mother Mary’s School sent students home as a precaution after the email arrived around 11.38 pm on Sunday.
The British School, Chanakyapuri; The Mother’s International, Aurobindo Marg; Modern School, Mandi House; DPS Vasant Kunj; Delhi Police Public School, Safdarjung; DPS East of Kailash, Cambridge School and Salwan Public Schools were among the educational institutions to receive bomb threats.
One parent at GD Goenka, Vipin Malhotra, said, “We got a call from school management, half an hour after my ward reached school.”

Delhi chief minister Shot criticised the central government’s handling of the situation while former CM Arvind Kejriwal called on Union home minister Amit Shah to address the issue.
The Delhi high court previously ordered the Delhi government and police to create a plan for handling bomb threats within eight weeks.
In May, more than 200 schools, hospitals and other important government installations in the city received a similar kind of bomb threat but the case is yet to solved as the mail was sent using Virtual Private Network (VPN).
