This is how the temple was established here
The story related to the establishment of the temple is also very interesting. In ancient times, the cow of a village family used to milk every day at a particular place in the forest, whereas it never milked at home. One day the owner of the cow reached the forest while chasing the cow and saw that the cow was spilling milk on a rock. In anger he attacked the cow with an axe, but this attack did not hit the cow but hit the rock. The villagers started digging to find the end of this rock, but finally they heard a voice from the sky. After which this temple became the center of faith. This place is divine, where Mother Durga and Bhole Shankar were seated together.
Here the tiger comes and bows his head in the temple
The tiger, the vehicle of Maa Durga, holds a special place in the beliefs here. According to the local people, during the religious rituals held here, the tiger comes to the court of the Mother Goddess, takes a circumambulation and then goes back peacefully. Even the tiger, which is generally considered aggressive, becomes very calm here. The pundits of village Maykoti and Banji have the right to worship in Durgadhar temple. Every year in the months of August and September, a grand goddess worship is organized here, which is called Jaggi. This is the only historical Jaggi of Talla Nagpur region.
Sevadar Surendra Singh Negi told that this temple is a center of attraction not only for the devotees but also for the tourists. Amazing views of Chaukhamba Mountain are visible from the temple complex, which provides mental peace to the visitors. Apart from this, the temple of Lord Kartikeya is also visible from here.
Mother Durga warns before any untoward incident.
Apart from the divine power of Maa Durga, the tradition of becoming the goddess’s pashwa is also seen in the temple. Local people believe that when there is a possibility of any calamity, Maa Durga comes upon a person, who is called the Pashwa of the Goddess. This tradition continues even today and the blessings of Maa Durga remain on the villagers. The mother alerts the villagers before any untoward incident occurs.
