Dehradun: The cold is gradually increasing in the entire state including the capital of Uttarakhand, Dehradun. According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, the chill has increased in Dehradun since December 8. Even the sun which used to give bright sunshine is now hiding behind the clouds. In such a situation, those people who do not have a roof over their heads suffer the most in winter.
In such a situation, the Municipal Corporation and the District Administration have started preparations to deal with the cold and provide support to these people. In view of the increasing cold, the administration has started preparations. There are about 5 night shelters in the capital, where destitute people take shelter during the cold nights.
Quilt and blanket for night shelter
Along with this, there is also a community hall in Dalanwala. Along with this, 51 such places have been ensured. Where bonfire is arranged by the Municipal Corporation. Where tender for wood has also been done and the process of purchasing new blankets, quilts etc. in the night shelter is also going on. All resources and beds etc. are already available.
There are 5 night shelters in Dehradun
With the arrival of cold wave in Doon Valley, the Municipal Corporation is now working to make arrangements in night shelters to provide a roof over the heads of the homeless people in winter. Let us tell you that there are 5 night shelters in Dehradun in which more than 4030 people took shelter in the winter last year.
Dehradun Deputy Municipal Commissioner Gopal Ram Binwal told Local 18 that there are 5 night shelters under the Municipal Corporation in Dehradun, which have adequate capacity of beds and bedding. In view of the cold wave for the last two-three days, instructions have been given to all concerned officials a week ago to ensure that people do not face any kind of inconvenience. For this, all arrangements should be made in the night shelters of Dehradun. Along with this, instructions have also been given to make arrangements for lighting bonfires in all night shelters like every year.
Arrangements made amid cold wave
Deputy Municipal Commissioner Gopal Ram Binwal said that no person will be forced to live on the streets in the cold season due to lack of shelter. The Municipal Corporation is preparing to provide shelter for those people in winter. So that those destitute and helpless people can be saved from the cold. Instructions have been given to all concerned officers of the corporation to make arrangements. They are also being inspected from time to time. Hoardings have been put up on the roads to provide information to the people.
What is the capacity of night shelters in Dehradun?
1. Night shelter in lime kiln with capacity of 35 people.
2. Rain shelter in Patel Nagar with a capacity of 139 people.
3. Rain shelter in Transport Nagar with capacity of 50 people.
4. Night shelter in Balbir Road with capacity of 116 people.
5. Night shelter at Chukhuwala with capacity of 100 people.
Instructions given to make these arrangements in the capital-
● Proper arrangements for electricity and water should be made in the night shelter.
● Employees should be present to look after the arrangements of night shelters.
● Adequate arrangements for blankets, beds, pillows etc. should be made so that people do not suffer from cold in the night shelters.
● With increasing cold, adequate arrangements should be made for bonfires in night shelters.
● Toilets/bathrooms of night shelters should be kept clean.
● As winter increases, preparations should be started from now to arrange bonfire in the city.
