Bageshwar. Sneha Parihar of Bageshwar, Uttarakhand is the first woman paragliding pilot of the district. He had taken training from Bageshwar in June 2024. While talking exclusively to Local 18, Sneha Parihar tells that her husband Saurabh Bisht used to fly paragliding. Seeing them, he also gradually started getting interested in flying. Six months ago, he took training from Fly Himalaya Adventure and Bageshwar Paragliding Association in Dulam, Kapkot and after two months of learning, he became a paragliding pilot and started training others. She has trained 7 batches so far.
Sneha tells that she was already interested in adventure activities. She often used to watch adventure related videos during her college days. Then during this time she got married and her husband Saurabh Bisht used to fly at the paragliding site. Gradually she also started going to paragliding sites with her husband. With time, her interest in this field also started increasing, however, one good thing is that she is not afraid of heights, hence she is able to fly without any hesitation. He took training from Jagdish Joshi, founder of Fly Himalaya and Bageshwar Paragliding Association in Bageshwar. He got a lot of support even during training. Now seeing them, other women and girls of Bageshwar are also taking training in paragliding. Earlier, only men used to take training in the training center because the women of the district did not show interest in taking paragliding training.
‘I am proud that she is my student’
Sneha Parihar’s trainer Jagdish Joshi told Local 18 that Sneha is a promising woman. He showed great courage from the very first day of training and decided to fly over the mountain on his own. I am proud that she is my student. I want him to progress a lot in future. May he bring glory to Uttarakhand and the country including Bageshwar in future. Like Sneha, other women can also come and take paragliding training from our training center which is in Nadigaon, Bageshwar.
DM praised Sneha Parihar
When Bageshwar District Magistrate Ashish Bhatgani got to know about Sneha Parihar’s achievement, he expressed immense happiness and also praised the instructor Jagdish Joshi. The DM said that every possible effort will be made to promote paragliding in the district. He has wished Sneha the best for her future. Jagdish Joshi said that the DM has asked to call Sneha to the DM office to encourage her. Soon Sneha will also meet DM Bhatgani.
