Rural women of Varanasi were made aware about menstruation on Wednesday morning by the women of Lok Samiti and Asha Trust. During this, women took out an awareness rally from Chandapur market to the Prime Minister’s adopted village Jayapur. A meeting was held in Jayapur.

During this, free sanitary pads were distributed to girls and women. Lok Samiti convenor Nandlal Master said that menstrual hygiene campaign is being run in 70 villages of Araji Line and Sewapuri block.
Hundreds of women and girls participated Lok Samiti and Asha Trust organized a monthly festival in Chandapur village on Wednesday. During this, hundreds of girls and women took out an awareness rally on menstruation. This rally reached Jayapur via Chandapur village. Women raised slogans all along the route, ‘Break the silence on menstruation, connect with a healthy life.’ ‘I am proud to be a mother, then why am I ashamed of menstruation?’ ‘It’s not period blood, it’s your dirty thinking.’ During this time, everyone also had posters in their hands on which slogans on menstrual hygiene were written.
Periods are a natural process During this, a workshop on menstrual hygiene was organized at Asha Sewing Centre. In the workshop, there was discussion on giving up misconceptions and hesitation regarding menstruation and information about cleanliness and balanced eating during periods was given. Soni, coordinator of Kishori Sangathan, said that menstruation is a natural process. In this regard, there is a need to change the society’s concept of considering women or adolescent girls as impure and keeping them away from religious rituals.
