Rudrapur. In Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand, a Muslim youth married a Hindu girl by hiding his religion. When the matter came to light, the bride’s family was stunned. The bride’s brother filed a complaint against the accused to the police. He told the police that a person known to him, resident of Pithoragarh, had brought this relationship. He had described the boy as being of Kumaoni origin. The police have registered a case and arrested the accused groom. The case is being investigated.
According to the complaint submitted to the police, the bride’s brother told that his acquaintance Santosh Kumar, a resident of Pithoragarh, had brought the relation of Aman Chaudhary, a resident of Delhi, for his sister. Santosh had told that the boy is from Kumaoni and his family is settled in Delhi. Aman does business in Delhi only. After this, to take the matter forward, they went to Delhi to see the boy’s house etc. There everything was the same as it happens in Hindu families and homes. There was also a temple in the house. After the consent of both the families, a ring ceremony was held as per Pahari customs at the City Club of Rudrapur on 13th October. The women of Aman’s family wore traditional mountain clothes, which did not raise any suspicion.
Marriage according to Hindu customs
The wedding date was fixed for 10th December. Aman Chaudhary’s family brought the wedding procession on the scheduled date. All the rituals were performed as per Hindu customs. The girl’s family spent around Rs 20 lakh on the wedding. Her family members had given the girl about 15 tola gold. After the farewell, he along with the bride went to brother-in-law and cousin Aman’s house in Delhi, but this time the atmosphere of the house was completely changed. Most of the people were in Muslim attire. After the marriage, some rituals were performed in Muslim manner. When he asked the family, he found out that they accepted that they were Muslims. Aman Chaudhary’s real name is Aman Qureshi. His father’s name is Murazuddin. Now the girl will have to live according to the Muslim religion.
Case registered in Rudrapur
Hearing this, the bride’s brothers and brother-in-law were shocked and they immediately informed the family. After which the family filed a case against Santosh Kumar and Aman Qureshi, who brought the relationship to Rudrapur. SP Uttam Singh Negi said about this that a case has been registered against two people for marrying by hiding their religion. A case has been registered under sections 3 and 5 of the Uttarakhand Religious Freedom Act 2018, sections 318 (4) and 319 under the Indian Justice Code 2023. The accused groom Aman Qureshi has been arrested. Further action is being taken.
