Nainital: In order to provide employment to the farmers in Uttarakhand, many schemes are being run by the government regarding fish farming in the state. By taking advantage of these schemes, farmers can do fisheries and strengthen their economic condition. Dr. Vishal Dutta, District Fisheries Incharge of Fisheries Department, located at Bhimtal in Nainital district of Uttarakhand, said that many schemes are being run by the government in the state regarding fish farming.

Under this, the Fisheries Department in Nainital district is also encouraging farmers to do fish farming by giving them the benefits of government schemes. He told that the geographical structure of our state is suitable for fish farming, there are water sources and ponds at many places. Apart from this, the climate of the hilly and plain areas of the state is also favorable for fish farming. Being a Himalayan state, many types of fish are found here. By taking advantage of the schemes of the Fisheries Department, farmers can become self-employed and earn huge profits.
Government will help
Dr. Dutta says that many schemes are being run by the Fisheries Department in the district. In which the department is giving grant amount to the farmers for fish farming. Under the scheme run by the Fisheries Department, if there is flowing water around a farmer’s house, then the department is providing grant money for the construction of a pond of at least 50 square meters.
In this the pond should be 10 meters long and 5 meters wide. The total cost of its construction is Rs 50 thousand. Out of which 50 percent subsidy is being given by the government. Whereas if a 100 square meter pond is built by a farmer, then the cost of building that pond is Rs 1 lakh. In which 60 percent grant amount is given by the government.
This is the scheme for Himalayan trout fish farming
Dr. Dutta says that the department is giving grant money to build trout raceways for trout fish farming in the cold areas of the district where the water temperature is around 18 degrees. Under this, if a farmer builds a trout raceway in 50 square meters which costs about Rs 5.5 lakh, then 50 percent subsidy on it is given by the government. Whereas trout fish is sold in the market for Rs 600 to Rs 1500 per kg. According to this, a farmer can earn an annual income of Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh from a pond.
Take advantage of Prime Minister Matsya Sampada Yojana
Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana is also being run in the state. Under this scheme, many small schemes are being run by the department in the district. The first scheme in this is the Food Van Scheme. Under this scheme, any person can cook and sell fish in a food van. For which the government gives a grant amount of up to Rs 10 lakh. In which 40 percent subsidy is given to general caste people and 60 percent subsidy to Scheduled Caste/Tribe people.
Apart from this, the Fish Kiosk Scheme is being run by the Department. Under which self-employment can be done by selling any fish related product. For which the government gives a grant amount of up to Rs 10 lakh. In this scheme also, 40 percent and 60 percent subsidy is given to the general caste by the government.
Apart from this, Motor Cycle with Ice Box scheme is being run by the department. Under this scheme, if a person has a pond and has done fish farming, then he can also do home delivery of fish. For this, the department gives a grant of Rs 30 thousand to the general caste category and Rs 45 thousand to the Scheduled Caste/Tribe category.

Dr. Dutta further explains that to avail the benefits of these schemes, any person from Nainital district who is unemployed can come to the Fisheries Department and apply by giving an application. After which the department completes some formalities and the benefits of the related scheme are provided. To avail the benefits of these schemes, preference is given to those who apply first.
