STF Meerut SP Brijesh Singh said- Sonu Matka was a notorious gangster of Delhi. The special team of Delhi Police had received information that Sonu was going to come to Vedvyaspuri, TP Nagar, Meerut. Delhi Police informed STF about this. The joint team of both reached Vedvyaspuri at 7 in the morning. Sonu Matka was waiting for someone on the bike. Seeing the police he started running. When the police chased him, he started firing. Fired on the police team 5 to 6 times. Sonu Matka got shot in police retaliation. He fell from the bike. STF took him to Meerut District Hospital. There the doctors declared Sonu Matka dead. About 12-15 rounds of firing took place during the encounter. One pistol 30 bore, one pistol 32 bore, 10 live cartridges and a bike were recovered from Sonu Matka. Sonu Matka was originally a resident of Baghpat.
