After the death during Corona in Azamgarh, the District Consumer Commission has reprimanded SBI Life Insurance Company for not paying the claim amount and has ordered to pay a claim of Rs 14 lakh to the wife of the deceased.

In this case, the victim Lalita Devi, resident of Hanumangarhi Tehsil Lalganj, had filed a petition in the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission. According to which, Lalita Devi’s husband Pramod Sonkar had his own business. Pramod Sonkar had taken insurance of Rs 15 lakh from SBI Life on 22 November 2019. Pramod Kumar became unwell at the time of Covid-19 and Pramod Sonkar died on 30 July 2020.

Lalit, wife of deceased Pramod, made an insurance claim in SBI Life Insurance. But the insurance company said that he was already suffering from diabetes. Therefore only Rs 1.5 lakh was given. Angered by this, Lalita filed a case in the Consumer Forum.
In this matter, after listening to the arguments of both the insurance company and Lalita Devi, District Consumer Grievance Commission Chairman Gyanesh Kumar and member Pratishtha Verma reprimanded the insurance company and made a total of Rs 14 lakh available to Lalita Devi within a month.
